A pompous narrator scoffs at the idea of strange coincidences—until he falls into a series of increasingly absurd and humiliating events. Each mishap, seemingly random, is orchestrated by a bizarre, beer-smelling entity known as the Angel of the Odd. As the narrator tries to escape fate, the angel continues to meddle in hilarious and improbable ways. The story satirizes human arrogance and the unpredictability of life. It’s Poe at his most humorous and absurd.
