In this brief prose-poem, Lovecraft evokes a dark vision of the universe ruled by Azathoth, a blind, idiot god who dwells at the center of all chaos. Though short and abstract, it introduces one of the most important figures in Lovecraft’s cosmology. Azathoth is less a narrative and more a poetic glimpse into the insignificance of humanity in the face of the cosmos. It’s a haunting cornerstone of the Mythos’ philosophical horror.
